A nomad family lives in isolation with its horses in the dizzying landscape of Kyrgyzstan, famous for its mountain gorges: an old shepherd and his wife, their daughter-in-law Shaiyr and granddaughter Umsunai. One day, the meteorologist Ermek appears, setting up his weather station directly next to Shaiyr’s home. They fall in love, and the old shepherd couple has a feeling that their daughter might soon choose to begin a new life in the city. When Shaiyr’s son, who studies in the city, visits the family in their mountain gorge, he tells the nomads stories of modern life. Finally, the first building machines appear nearby, portending a new era.
