“Togetherness in Music”: Orchestra Concert

For centuries, Croatians and Germans have enjoyed human and musical relations. Celebrating this connection, composers of both countries are featured in a concert programme with a special focus on Croatian female composers living and working in Germany – especially in Berlin. After the contemporary composition Sugarcoating version 2.0 for large ensemble by the Croatian composer Sara Glojnarić, a resident of Germany, we will hear works by Svetislav Stančić, Krešimir Baranović and Ivo Tijardović, three Croatian composers living in Berlin during the inter-war period. Finally, there is Blagoje Bersa, one of the central representatives of Croatian modernism, and two famous German composers with great influence on 19th-century music.

The Young Musicians Orchestra was founded in 2017 at the initiative of students of the Zagreb Music Academy. In order to implement their concert and project ideas and gather practical orchestral experience, young musicians with an urge to perform founded the association and its orchestra. The entire process, from the idea to the implementation, is still in the hands of the members themselves. To this date, the orchestra has given more than 30 concerts throughout Croatia, including Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne at the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin, the season opening 2021/22 at the Zagreb Music Association and Anne Frank’s Diary by Grigori Frid, which won the prize for the best musical performance at the 56th Summer Festival in Split.

Solo parts will be performed by Croatian musicians established in Germany and their friends.
